Jamie Hey (2002)

Jamie Hey recently took up the postion of principal cellist of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra (2002), as well as being the cellist of chacona from its inception in 1997. After studies on modern cello at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, he became a regular member of the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra, and of the Badinerie Players, the original instrument ensemble in his home town of Brisbane. With them he has broadcast as soloist in Vivaldi cello concertos, a repertoire which continues to attract him.

Performances in 2002 included the Bach D minor Unaccompanied Cello Suite for the Melbourne Autumn Music Festival, broadcast on ABC Classic FM. As a continuo player, he has accompanied many leading international singers of baroque music , including Emma Kirkby, Graham Pushee, Derek Lee Ragin, Sara Macliver, Jane Edwards, Kate Eckersley and James Sanderson. In 2002 he has undertaken study with acclaimed baroque/classical cellist Hidemi Suzuki in both Australia and Japan.
